Newark, Calif., September 4, 2013 — Twenty years ago today, Kathy Ryan and her colleague Sue Macias saw a better way to bring top-notch finance and accounting expertise to Silicon Valley companies. Together they founded a consulting firm with a focus on high tech and life sciences clients that provides a wide variety of services through its ace team of professionals.
Today, RoseRyan is a leading finance and accounting consulting firm with a team of 65 seasoned pros and a reputation for excellence and thought leadership. Since 1993, the firm has delivered savvy finance to more than 700 unique clients.
“It’s been rewarding to create a model that’s worked so well, and then to refine and build on our success,” says Ryan, the firm’s CEO and CFO. “We never knew that by targeting a few key markets and creatively addressing talent—a perpetual Achilles’ heel in the accounting and finance field—we’d thrive as we have.”
The RoseRyan business model: Lemons into lemonade
RoseRyan offers seasoned pros—who seek variety, work-life balance, flexibility in employment arrangements and career growth—the chance to work on challenging finance and accounting assignments at dynamic, fast-moving companies of all sizes.

For clients, the collective intelligence and energy of the RoseRyan team means they benefit from broad and deep experience and get work done right the first time.
“I’m honored to have worked with all the RoseRyan finance dream team members who have given their best to bring us to this point,” says Ryan, reflecting on her firm’s 20th anniversary. “Today we have the wind at our back. As a firm, we’re focused on excellence, integrity, teamwork and advocating for our clients—these values are the cornerstones of our success.”
RoseRyan reaches 700-client milestone
In sync with its 20th anniversary, RoseRyan reached another significant milestone when its roster of clients surpassed 700 companies at the end of June.
Says Ryan, “We bring our flair for finance to every client—whipping their processes into shape, providing insight into their business and readying them for milestones. We guide them as they navigate the changing accounting landscape, and we spring into action to fill talent gaps. Clients appreciate how we partner with them to address their evolving and most pressing challenges.”
RoseRyan’s client roster is an impressive mix of companies. The majority of work has been with private companies (72 percent), complemented by a strong presence of San Francisco Bay Area public companies that are household names and global leaders. The firm also has a robust practice serving startups and emerging growth companies (38 percent) and has been invited to work with prominent incubator groups in recent years.
The firm’s client list also underscores RoseRyan’s deep expertise in the technology and life sciences sectors; together, these sectors represent 68 percent of its client base. A growing cleantech practice and other industries round out the list, including healthcare and nonprofits. To date, RoseRyan has worked on engagements with more than 250 technology and 225 life sciences companies.
“Congratulations to RoseRyan and its entire team for its 20 years of success,” says Ernie Cortes, partner, Ernst & Young and director of the Ernst & Young, Entrepreneur Of The Year™ program. “I’m impressed by the firm’s professionalism and its can-do attitude. RoseRyan is a leading supporter of entrepreneurship in the Bay Area. We are very proud to have worked with them in supporting entrepreneurs and the high-growth companies they founded.”
