RoseRyan Named a MOVE Project Equity Leadership Firm
for the Second Consecutive Year
AFWA & AWSCPA Release This Year’s Annual MOVE Project List
Newark, Calif., June 13, 2016-For the second year running, RoseRyan tops the Accounting MOVE Project Equity Leadership list released Wednesday by the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) and American Women’s Society of CPAs (AWSCPA).
A finance and accounting consulting firm based in Silicon Valley that serves the San Francisco Bay Area, RoseRyan has three women executives at the helm: Kathy Ryan, its founder and CEO; Pat Voll, vice president; and Maureen Ryan, vice president.
Says Kathy Ryan about the honor, “We’re pleased to head the equity list again and to be at the forefront of advancing women in accounting. Sue Macias and I launched RoseRyan in 1993 so we could flexibly balance our lives with challenging work. Men and women are still looking for this today.”
Selection criteria for the list includes a minimum of 50 employees and at least 30% of partners and principals who are women. This year, women comprise 23% of the partners and principals at the 49 firms that participated in the MOVE Project, the accounting profession’s only annual benchmark of the status of women in the leadership pipeline. According to MOVE, that’s a 17% increase from its 2012 results.

Highlighting trends affecting women in the profession, MOVE is spearheaded by Wilson-Tayler Associates, Inc., a strategic communications firm led by business journalist Joanne Cleaver. Sponsors of the project, in addition to the AFWA and AWSCPA, include Moss Adams and Cohn Reznick. The project’s partners also team up to produce a “Best CPA Firms for Women” list, which was released Wednesday as well and is in its seventh year. This year’s overall theme focused on executive sponsorship, a factor in navigating the last few steps to partnership at traditional CPA firms.
According to Ericka Harney, executive director of the AFWA, “The MOVE Project continues to report improvement for women in the accounting field, but we still have much more to do as an industry.”
