A relentless focus on quality drives recent gains at the Silicon Valley-based consulting firm

Newark, Calif., February 7, 2019—RoseRyan, a Silicon Valley-based finance and accounting consulting firm that takes companies further, faster, announced today that Stephen Ambler has been named vice president of service and delivery. In this role, he oversees RoseRyan’s recruiting, retention, and learning and development initiatives, as well as the careful matching of its talent with every client engagement. In addition, he’s responsible for the overall delivery of RoseRyan’s proven accounting and finance solutions to clients, ensuring every engagement is a success.

According to the firm’s founder and CEO, Kathy Ryan, “This is one of the most valuable areas of RoseRyan, as it guides our relationships with our consultants—that is our talent out in the field working on engagements—and our clients. Making sure that both bases are happy falls to Stephen and his team.”

Joining RoseRyan in 2012 and rising to director the next year, Ambler has led this functional area of the firm to great effect. RoseRyan’s retention, hiring, customer satisfaction ratings, and employee happiness levels have all seen measurable gains under his leadership.

With “quality” as his watchword, the United Kingdom native has stewarded a process that hires the right individuals for the work ahead, and matches in real time the right talent with the right assignment in the field. He’s honed this area’s methodology and grown the firm’s ranks, while capitalizing and enhancing RoseRyan’s special culture and business model.

Explains Ambler, who has 30 years of experience as a CFO and in auditing, “With each engagement, we want nothing less than the client to be thrilled with the results, and equally, for RoseRyan consultants to be very comfortable in the environment, feel supported by the firm, benefit from the assignment in terms of their growth and feel confident that their experience is the right match for what’s expected.”

He adds, “It’s got to be a win-win experience for both sides.”

Expanding Team, Workplace Awards and Great Customer Reviews Define Ambler’s Leadership

Ambler’s promotion to VP comes at a time when RoseRyan’s business is growing and its internal metrics are riding high: Last year’s workforce retention rate averaged 95%, it consistently scores 4.7 out of 5 stars on customer satisfaction ratings, and RoseRyan’s headcount has surged to more than 100 people in an extremely tight labor market. In terms of workplace happiness, RoseRyan has been named a Great Place to Work and, during the last four years, it has landed on the San Francisco Bay Area’s Top 100 Workplace list.

The Secret Sauce Behind RoseRyan’s Service & Delivery

A key innovation taken during Ambler’s tenure has been bridging his area with the firm’s business development team to better scope each engagement’s needs. Working together, the two areas of the firm assess the level, complexity and timelines for the finance work as well as the client’s management style, pace, culture and environment. Then, the scheduling team carefully reviews RoseRyan’s talent to find the right fit. This part of the process matches the client with the consultant(s) who brings what the firm feels to be a “magical blend” of personality fit, work style and specialized finance and accounting skills.

Says Ambler, “By knowing our people at an individual level, the type of work they’d like to do next, what they’d like to learn, and in what kind of environment, we can make the correct match. It’s well worth the time and attention we put into it, as we’ve found that these are the ingredients that deliver high-quality work.”

More About Stephen Ambler

A member of RoseRyan’s leadership team since 2013, Ambler also oversees RoseRyan’s Learning and Development, its peer-to-peer Advocate program, recruiting and retention. In addition, he remains active as a CFO-level consultant, liking the fact that it helps him stay abreast of what client management teams want and need from RoseRyan.

Prior to joining RoseRyan, he spent 13 years as CFO of NASDAQ-listed companies, taking one public. Auditing largely defined the earlier part of his career, including his position as a manager at Price Waterhouse (now PwC). Originally from the U.K., Ambler is a chartered accountant and holds a diploma in accounting studies.
